Despite huge advances in the success rates for treatment of paediatric leukaemia in general, when this disease occurs in babies the outcomes are dismal. Therefore, our group works towards development of safer and more effective targeted therapies for this disease.

We are an ambitious, enthusiastic, cooperative, and dedicated team and we currently have an opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and technically skilled team player to join us as an Animal Technician or Research Assistant. This is an excellent role for someone who has solid experience with small animal handling and procedures and who is dedicated to generating high quality pre-clinical data to advance new treatments for infant leukaemia towards their clinical application. You will also be involved in developing new models to study high-risk leukaemia as well as laboratory analysis of molecular and cellular responses to the novel treatment strategies.

The overall goal of the role is to deliver high quality experimental outcomes that can be translated to clinical practice and thereby improve patient outcomes

 

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Execute in vivo drug efficacy studies and assist in design of these studies
  • Preparation of study reports, presentation of data and accurate record-keeping
  • Assist with in vitro drug efficacy studies

Qualifications, experience and skills required:

  • Experience in mouse xenograft models of cancer highly desirable
  • 1+ relevant laboratory experience highly desirable
  • Tertiary qualifications in science or relevant laboratory processing experience
  • Demonstrated experience in small animal handling including intraperitoneal, intravenous and per-oral delivery of substances, imaging techniques and blood and tissue collection
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and conduct experiments
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members and to be pro-active in supporting them
  • Excellent time management skills and flexible attitude to work
  • Drive to significantly contribute to high quality research aimed to develop better treatment strategies for childhood cancer
  • Punctuality, reliability and ability to meet deadlines
  • Exhibits a high degree of professionalism and respect for others
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members and to be pro-active in supporting them
