We are currently recruiting for a dedicated Research Officer to join our Leukaemia Biology team on a full-time fixed term basis initially ending on 31 December 2019 with potential to extend. This is a great role for researcher to coordinatre and conduct experiments as part of a team of 4 researchers to test the efficacy of novel drugs against xenograft models of acute leukaemia. This individual will take a lead role in scheduling operations of the Pediatric Preclinical Testing Program (PPTC) in the Leukaemia Biology Program, as well as participating in the conduct of the experiments. The individual will also be expected to draft new agent proposals for consideration by the PPTC Steering Committee, draft manuscripts of research findings, and analyse and collate experimental results for transfer to the PPTC Coordinating Center on a regular basis. Additional responsibilities include collating, organising and presenting experimental results, carrying out other laboratory assays as required, maintaining close communication with collaborators and the PPTC Coordinating Center, and participation in the day-to-day running of the laboratory in cooperation with other researchers.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • A minimum of one senior author (first or last author) paper plus one co-authored paper, or three co-authored papers, in journals with ISI Journal Impact Factor of >3.0 is expected per year of contract
  • Draft New Agent Proposals in consultation with the Program Head for consideration by the PPTC Steering Committee
  • Present data at national and international conferences
  • Deliver publication quality results
  • Design and execute novel experiments
  • Participate in annual reporting to the funding body to ensure continuous financial support
  • Contribute to the intellectual output and running of Leukaemia Biology and CCI
  • Contribute to the meeting of the mission statement of CCI
Qualifications, experience and skills required:
  • Doctoral qualifications in Science or related area.
  • Experience in mouse models of cancer
  • Background in cancer biology or therapeutics
  • Knowledge of OGTR & ethics requirements
  • Experience with therapeutics and therapeutic combinations
  • Mathematical and statistical knowledge
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to quickly respond to situations as they arise
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Demonstrated initiative
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Exhibits a high degree of professionalism and respect for others
